Brighton Rainbow Families is an informal social group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning & other (LGBTQ+) parents and their families in Brighton & Hove and the surround areas.
Brighton Rainbow Families exists to help you network and meet other local LGBTQ+ parents and prospective parents as well as working with local organisations to ensure LGBTQ+ families are represented and services are inclusive and friendly to LGBTQ+ families as possible. We want to enable children of LGBTQ+ families to meet and play with other children from similar backgrounds. We are a non-profit organisation and membership is free.
We aim to create a friendly, inclusive space for parents and our children. Some of our families are led by single parents or carers, some have two mums, or two dads, or both, but whoever is included in your family our message is everyone is welcome.
Our activities are completely volunteer led and rely on our members promoting, leading and supporting sessions. We have a very active Facebook Group, which is a great way to ask questions and meet new members. We also have a regular newsletter providing details of meet ups and organised activities. Our aim is to make events as free or low-cost as possible and we work with local organisations and charities to support the work that we do.
As well as regular volunteer led meet ups, we all come together three times a year for our annual Christmas Party, annual Camp Trip and for Brighton Pride.
The Brighton Rainbow Families Committee meet regularly to organise events and secure funding for our activities. We’re always looking for volunteers, whether that’s helping us with fundraising, supporting our website, being a parent-champion for new members, or even leading a meet-up session.
